Dear Readers,

What a time. I don’t know about any of you, but I’ve been in my home for the past three days without much in the way of company or outside exposure.

Normally, I have long periods of that anyway, but it’s a different matter when it’s recommended and even encouraged. It’s early spring here; it’s sunny and the temperature is finally above 35 degrees Fahrenheit regularly. I want to be outside and doing things, but alas.

So here I am, shut in and bored and writing this post for you.

It’s a prompt, if you didn’t read the title. I hope you are all ready for this, because I am ready and spoiling for an adventure.

The morning is brisk, windless, and sunless. The clouds gather above me, but no rain falls. A damp fog settles around me as I walk down the pier in search of a lost item. It’s my purpose to find it, I know. The old woman on the street told me.

Just to be clear, I’m not crazy. This may be an item that’s been lost for millennia, but the old woman seemed to know what she was talking about. I’m certain she isn’t crazy, either. She seemed so convinced.

Even with one hand on an unlabeled bottle and the other on a shopping cart full of numerous treasures only she can define or explain, she has a secret knowledge. I can tell. It’s in the deep certainty of her fathomless black eyes, the urgency of her quick but strong grasp on my wrist, and the way she forgets that her bottle of vice is now smashed on the ground between us.

So here I am at the pier. At five thirty in the morning, like she told me. And yet, she never told me what I’d find.

Remember that the point of a prompt is to keep yourself writing no matter what. If you want to write something but aren’t sure what, make something crazy happen. The rules of this story’s universe aren’t defined. You can make it as mundane or imaginative as you wish. It’s my prompt, but it’s your story. Have fun with it!

Post your responses in the comment below and like and subscribe! I’ve got a few other prompts on here if you’d like to see those. It’s under my “Prompts” tab on the top menu.

Thank you so much for reading! If you enjoyed my writing style, take a look around my site. I hope you’re staying healthy, safe, and smart in the middle of this pandemic and that we all see the end of it soon.
