It’s been a while since I did a prompt. (It’s been a while since I did anything, but I’m looking forward, not back. Let’s do that together.) I’m feeling indecisive about the kinds of posts to write, so I’m asking my lovely and dependable readers offer some guidance. At the end of this post will be a poll. I would love to hear what you think!
Moving on.
Okay, I lied. It’s not just one prompt. Enjoy!
1. You Should Be Dead
Smoke curled in the cold air, listing slowly up in the stillness.
“You didn’t have to burn those, you know,” said a familiar, impossible voice behind me. I stiffened at it, unsure of what it meant.
They were dead. I saw them die. Afraid to turn and face whatever new reality this was, I spoke into the silent, still air.
“I’m sorry I strangled you.”
A moment too long in coming, I heard a bitter laugh and felt a presence beside me that I refused to acknowledge. “No, you’re not.”
2. An Accidental Kidnapping
It seemed a pity to leave them all here without a clue where they were or where they should go, but I wasn’t going to take these three four-year-olds with me. I may have kidnapped them on accident, but if I brought them with me, they’d only turn up dead somewhere.
3. Cursed?
Am I cursed? Unlucky? Or just stupid enough to continually be in the right place at the wrong time?
No, don’t answer that. It started innocuous enough, but you know what they say: “the only good that comes from good plans made with bad people is to get you good and dead.”
I’ve learned that lesson ten times over, but I’m still here. In the gutter. With a knife in my back and a splitting headache. I really thought this time would be different.
But I think that every time.
4. Unprepared
Calamity Burgess broke the glass with her axe, smashing the door and spilling glass everywhere. But she was prepared for that.
She was not prepared for what came next: an uppercut the like of which she hadn’t seen since training.
5. Petty
It all seems ridiculous now, but at the time, the fact that my best friend spoke against me in our history class’s mock debate seemed like such a betrayal that I didn’t speak with him for a week.
Yes, it’s petty. Hello, my name is [name], and I am one of the most petty people you will ever meet. So don’t think that I will forgive you or forget what you did.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed these prompts and that they inspire some stories for you.
As promised, here’s a poll for you to fill out:
If you’d like to know when I upload more content, subscribe below! I usually publish on Wednesday mornings, but I’ve been known to have long periods of silence, so subscribing is a good way to know when I post.
Thanks again and check out some of my other posts!
