Snow. I knew it would come
and I’m still disappointed.
But spring’s white damnation
isn’t the only item
on my list of small betrayals
today.

April Fool’s Day. An annual “holiday”
for those of certain ingenuities
to act with all the malicious intent
they desire while passing it off
as jovial phenomena.

While I’m put out by snow
on this first day in April,
it seems also to be severely
perfect in its timing.

For no other day of the year
could I accept the weather’s betrayal
so perfectly
as an ironic twist of fate
as well as a cruel joke.
